Food Safety (General Food Hygiene) Regulations 1995

Schedule 1 Chapter V: All food handlers must be supervised/instructed or trained in food hygiene matters to a level appropriate to their job.

A recent NHS report found that 24% of pupils in Years 7-11 had taken drugs, and both legal and illegal drug use amongst young people is widespread. Awareness of substance misuse is, therefore, essential for anyone who works with young people. Understand the different types of bullying (including cyberbullying), the signs to look out for, and how and when you should intervene.   • According to the charity Young Minds, bullying affects over one million young people every year in the UK. It can happen to anyone and although most bullying happens at school, it can follow pupils anywhere where they take their mobiles, or when they turn on their computers and games consoles at home. Schools have a duty of care to their students that extends beyond the school gates and this course suggests ways to adopt a whole school approach to bullying – both in and outside of school.
  • Bullies often target people who have a characteristic they perceive to be ‘different’ or has an insecurity they can exploit. This short course is suitable for new early years practitioners, as well as those who are familiar with the original EYFS. Every child or young person is an individual and will develop skills in their own way, and in their own time. However, we can say it’s normal to develop a certain skill within a given time span and these are known as ‘developmental norms’. Being two isn’t easy; at times you feel big and strong, and other times you feel small and vulnerable. Working with two-year-olds isn’t easy either; one minute they’re endearing and trustful, the next they’re throwing their weight around and testing whether you really mean what you say. What does this qualification cover?

This Level 4 qualification aims to provide professional development opportunities for practitioners working in the school and college workforce. This qualification will embrace the wealth of experience, proven knowledge and skills of the learner in a teaching and learning environment. It will challenge the learner in both daily practice and theoretical understanding.

Learners will acquire and use skills of leadership, mentoring, coaching and reflection as they complete the qualification through work-based learning opportunities.

Upon achievement of this qualification, the learner will be equipped as an Advanced Practitioner. The Advanced Practitioner will use crucial leadership skills to mentor others across all roles and responsibilities in the school or college workforce.

Who is it suitable for?

The qualification is aimed at learners who are employed in suitable roles within schools or colleges. Learner knowledge and understanding that comes from working in schools or colleges is a requirement for this CPD qualification.

What are the entry requirements?

Learners must be at least 18 years old and employed in a suitable role within a school or college. Previous Level 3 study is a clear advantage but wealth of experience, knowledge and understanding working in schools or colleges is a requirement for this CPD qualification. Your training provider will be able to offer you discreet advice in relation to your suitability for entry.

We do not set any other entry requirements but Centres may have their own guidelines.

How is this qualification structured?

This qualification has 5 mandatory units.

How is it assessed?

All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods which could include:

  • direct observation within the workplace
  • written assignments and professional discussion in line with the Assessment of Learning provided for each unit.

How long will it take to complete this qualification?

The Certificate can usually be completed in a year.

Do you need to be working to take this qualification?

Learners will need to be working or on a practical placement for the duration of the course in a learning environment (school or college) as they need to show competence in both skills and knowledge.

Recently working with a UK Awarding Organisation, CACHE and NCFE, for 9 years in senior teams and consulting roles to develop their international strategy and support the growth and development of the company both in the UK and Internationally. I have over 30 years’ experience in early years and schools market and I am skilled in teaching, training development and delivery, coaching, mentoring and research.

Sarah Bellairs is co-founder  and Director of The International Education Group (TiEGr) providing bespoke services to the international and UK vocational education sector.

Before starting TiEGr, Sarah was the International Partnership Development Manager at CACHE, (now NCFE) a UK regulated awarding organisation. At CACHE Sarah worked with education providers internationally to set up training centres in the Middle East, S.E. Asia, India and Europe, along with supporting existing centres to develop and grow their business. Sarah has organised, attended and spoken at a range of education conferences in the Middle East, Malaysia and the UK and has travelled extensively in these areas.

Sarah has 25 years experience in the education sector including project management and development, programme and resource development, project tendering and reporting, teaching, assessing and external quality assurance.

Prior to CACHE, Sarah’s previous international experience has included working with youth education projects in France and Romania, as well as working with the British Council on a community development project in Indonesia.

Sarah has a Masters Degree in International Development from Brunel University, a BA (Hons) in Youth and Community and is a qualified External Quality Assurer.
