Education Opportunities in Myanmar – UK ASEAN Business Council

 In Asia, Conferences

This week the TiEGr team spent the day in London at the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors to meet with the trade delegation from Myanmar. The Wednesday forum focused on the education sector, updating us on the opportunities in Myanmar, followed by 1-2-1s with the key players in the sector.

The speakers at the forum spoke about the recognition of education by the Myanmar Government as an ongoing priority, having recently increased the percentage of GDP annual funding from 2% to 8% and TVET (vocational training) which is one of the top priorities within the sector in recognition of the massive skills shortage throughout all industries.

After lunch and a networking session we met with staff from several colleges, schools and training providers who are all looking to develop their portfolio of vocational qualifications in support of the Governments priorities.

The event also gave us opportunities to meet old colleagues and we spent some time catching up on awarding organisation and sector news!

We had a great day and arrived home with some new business contacts and offers of trips to Mandalay.
